FAQs – Chiang Mai Elephant Land

Answers to common questions about visiting our sanctuary

Getting to the Sanctuary

Why does it take approximately 2 hours to get to the sanctuary?

Our sanctuary was chosen to give elephants a large, natural habitat, away from roads and busy areas. The final 10 km is deep in the jungle and only accessible by off-road vehicles, which makes the journey part of the adventure.

What to Bring

What do I need to bring on the trip?
Essentials include:

  • Hat and sunglasses
  • Insect spray and sunscreen
  • Change of clothes and towel
  • Swimming suit
  • Sport shoes, socks, and sandals
  • Personal medication

Wet season tips (July–October):

  • Stout walking shoes for muddy terrain
  • Lightweight raincoat
  • Long socks to protect against leeches

Food & Refreshments

Is food provided?
Yes! We serve a delicious lunch from our camp kitchen, along with coffee, fruit, and drinking water. Other refreshments may be available for purchase. If you have special dietary requirements (vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.), please let us know at pickup.

Photography & Drones

Can I bring and use a drone at the sanctuary?
Drones are not allowed at the sanctuary. Flying drones can disturb the elephants, and we prioritize their safety and comfort at all times.

Can I take photos or videos during the tour?
Absolutely! Cameras and smartphones are welcome. Please avoid using flash near the elephants and be respectful of their space.

Facilities

Do you have washing/changing facilities?
Yes! We have changing areas with cold showers and western-style toilets so you can freshen up comfortably after your visit.

Safety & Health

Are the tours safe for children?
Yes! Most tours are family-friendly for children over [age]. Children should be accompanied by an adult at all times, and we ensure all interactions with elephants are safe.

Are there any health risks?
Our sanctuary is safe for visitors in good health. We recommend bringing personal medication if needed and using insect repellent. Walking and trekking involve moderate activity on uneven terrain.

What if I get seasick or motion sick?
Our tours are mostly on land and forest trails. The off-road approach can be bumpy, so if you are prone to motion sickness, take precautions or consult your doctor before your trip.

How long does a typical tour last?
