I'm back! - Chiangmai Elephant Land

Baby La Ker Por returns to Chiang Mai Elephant Land!

In conjunction with the FAE hospital [1], we have agreed a new plan to introduce La Ker Por to our herd. We are hoping that he will be accepted and eventually supplement his feed by taking milk from baby Horton’s mother (Mo Phror Mae). The FAE hospital is about 100 km (about 2 h) from our camp. Armed with an initial 40 cans of backup milk, La Ker Por arrived back at our sanctuary from the hospital in Lampang on 5th December. For the plan to succeed to succeed, LA Ker Por will first need “approval” from our herd’s matriarch, Mashaw. In fact, following Horton’s birth, he became a firm favourite with Mashaw after only one week! So, although La Ker Por has initially been shunned by the herd, we remain optimistic.

Although only separated by one month, baby Horton (left) is visibly larger than La Ker Por
Getting to know the herd: can I join in?
